About your teacher
Gema Sánchez Benítez, was born in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz, but she lives in Málaga province now, although she travels to the UK on a regular basis.
She has travelled to many different places and has also lived in countries such as England, Germany, China, and India. She has been working as a teacher for over 20 years now; in the last few years, she has been offering online lessons and also working on a project developing learning materials.
“As a language teacher, I believe that the best way to learn is with private tuition that focuses on the student’s needs instead of a whole classroom’s. Most of the time classrooms mix different levels and this is a struggle, not just for the teacher, but especially for the students.
With this Málaga Spanish immersion programme, you will have private attention to your language needs and the cultural factor. Learning a language while getting to know the culture in situ is the best option to feel motivated”.

Spanish gastronomy
What is a trip without tasting the local food? We will discover together the gastronomy of Malaga through the typical sweets of the region.
Some of our tastings will be the delicious Yemas del Tajo and, of course, the tasty Torta de Algarrobo, a classic you can’t miss.
Savoury food will also make its presence felt during the programme, so we will take you to try the exquisite Malagueña salad in conjunction with the espetos de sardinas (sardine skewers). These two famous dishes will mark a before and after in your gastronomic knowledge.
We will also visit several Spanish restaurants so that you can get to know a typical Spanish lunchroom and taste all the tapas available. Don’t forget that you will have the opportunity to learn to cook paella with your teacher. How many times in your life do you learn to make paella with a native Spaniard? It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Spanish art & history
The historic centre of Malaga is shaped by all the history of the region, housing palaces, churches and convents. These have invaluable historical, artistic and cultural value, and just by walking a few streets, you will have access to all the monuments.
This area is perfect for a slow walk, and there are bars and restaurants on every corner that will accompany you with Spanish snacks as you stroll through this unique place.
Iznájar joins our list of spots to visit, a stunning village crowned by the castle of Hisn-Ashar and the parish church of Santiago Apóstol. This town had only 4,000 inhabitants in 2016, but its charm lies in its littleness.
Another of our stops will be the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, located in La Serna, in an old neighbourhood of the area. Its fame lies in the fascinating history it holds, as it was once the temple of the Carmelite Fathers, who were known for walking barefoot throughout Malaga.
These and more key places of Spanish culture will be in our itinerary. Of course, you are free to make your suggestions, whatever takes your fancy!
