As Director of Spanish Express, I attended WTM London 2025, one of the world’s most significant travel industry events to explore new travel trends, sustainability practices, and innovations.
I’m the founder and host teacher at Spanish Express, where I lead the Spanish Homestay Immersion Program (SHIP), a unique experience that allows students from around the world to learn Spanish while living with their teacher and discovering authentic Spanish culture.

Returning Once Again to WTM London
In November, I always return to the World Travel Market (WTM) London. It seems to be a pilgrimage for me or a kind of ritual that I perform every November. This year’s conference will focus on the key theme “Reimagining Travel in a Changing World*”*, exploring everything from new global policies to shifting traveller behaviours.
When I walked into ExCeL London this year, I felt the familiar rush of excitement. The air buzzed with energy, as WTM London was bringing together thousands of travel professionals and buyers from around the globe under one roof to share ideas, innovations, and ambitions for the future of our industry. Flags, languages, smiles, and stories filled every corner; it was, quite literally, a celebration of the world’s diversity.

Why I Attend WTM Every Year
For me, WTM London has always been more than an event, it’s a journey of discovery. It’s where ideas are born, collaborations are forged, and visions are refined.
As Director of Spanish Express, my purpose at WTM is twofold:
- To represent our brand, showcasing our unique language-immersion and homestay programmes across Spain.
- And to learn by engaging with global experts and understanding how new trends, technology, and sustainability practices are shaping the travel industry.
Every conversation, every seminar, every handshake adds another piece to the bigger picture of what experiential travel can become.

Walking Through the World Under One Roof
This year’s WTM was extraordinary. More than 180 countries participated, transforming ExCeL into a mosaic of global culture. As the central hub for the world’s travel community, WTM London brought together industry leaders and innovators from every corner of the globe. The event truly served as a meeting point for the world’s travel trade, connecting professionals and organizations from across the international travel sector. From Asia to Latin America, from Europe to the Middle East, every stand told a story.
I began my visit at the Spain Pavilion, reconnecting with some of our regional partners and exploring potential collaborations for our Spanish immersion programmes. Meeting face-to-face again after a year of virtual calls reminded me of the true magic of this event — the human connection.
Later, I visited stands from Latin America and Europe, where I had insightful discussions about language-learning tourism, sustainability in education travel, and partnerships that combine culture with education. I even met representatives from universities and travel agencies who showed great interest in developing Spanish Express-style immersion experiences in their own countries.
It was a reminder that the world is full of people who share our belief: travel is the most powerful form of learning.

Exploring WTM’s Conference Programme — A Source of Inspiration
One of the most enriching aspects of WTM London is its conference programme, which is organised into six key tracks, each one exploring a vital theme shaping the future of travel. As the leading global event in the travel industry, WTM London serves as the premier platform for industry professionals to network, build business connections, and access global audiences, reflecting its extensive international reach and influence.
1. Sustainability
The sessions on Sustainability were among the most powerful of the entire event. They focused on regenerative tourism, ESG strategies, and how the industry can create meaningful, long-term value for local communities.
As I listened to experts discuss the role of small businesses and educational travel in supporting sustainable practices, I couldn’t help but feel proud. Spanish Express was built on exactly those values, our students stay with local host families, our programmes boost small communities, and our activities celebrate Spanish culture in an ethical, responsible way.
These discussions reminded me that sustainability isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a way of living, teaching, and travelling with integrity.
One of the most thought-provoking sessions was “The Future of Sustainable Travel: Data, Insight, Action,” whereJulie Cheetham, COO of Travalyst, introduced the Data Hub—an open-access platform that collects, verifies, and shares sustainability data across the travel industry. The initiative seeks to replace vague sustainability claims with transparent, data-backed insights that drive real change. Beginning with accommodation and expanding to aviation, rail, and complete itineraries, the Data Hub marks a significant move toward measurable, credible, and future-ready sustainable travel.

2. Technology
The Technology track was equally fascinating, especially for a director constantly seeking ways to innovate without losing the human touch.
From artificial intelligence to automation and fintech, the future of travel tech was on full display. I attended a panel on AI and personalization in travel marketing, which explored how brands can use data to create deeper emotional connections with travellers.
This resonated with me deeply — at Spanish Express, we’re already using digital tools like virtual homestay previews and personalized communication to help students prepare for their trips. But hearing how others use emerging technologies inspired me to think even bigger.
The key takeaway? Technology should enhance connection, not replace it. That’s exactly how we approach innovation at Spanish Express.

3. Diversity, Equity, Accessibility & Inclusion (DEAI)
Another theme that stood out was DEAI — ensuring that travel is accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone.
The conversations were heartfelt and inspiring. Speakers shared stories of how inclusivity can transform not only destinations but also travellers’ lives. This struck a chord with me because our mission at Spanish Express is rooted in accessibility — we believe that everyone, regardless of background, deserves the chance to learn, connect, and experience Spain authentically.
Hearing about inclusive leadership and representation reminded me how important it is for us to keep building bridges — linguistic, cultural, and social.

The Marketing track felt like home to me, given how much of my work revolves around storytelling and communication.
4. Marketing
Sessions explored destination branding, digital storytelling, influencer collaboration, and content marketing for the next generation of travellers. I attended a particularly engaging workshop on “The Power of Authentic Stories,” which emphasized that modern travellers connect not with perfection, but with purpose.
That message perfectly aligns with the ethos of Spanish Express — we don’t sell vacations; we create stories. Our students’ experiences — cooking traditional dishes, learning idiomatic expressions, bonding with their host families — are the most genuine form of marketing.
This year’s marketing sessions inspired me to bring even more human stories into our digital presence: videos, blogs, and testimonials that capture the true heart of our immersion programmes.

5. Geo-Economics
The Geo-Economics track tackled how global politics, economics, and sustainability impact travel. From discussions on geopolitical instability to sessions on market resilience and investment, it was a powerful reminder that travel doesn’t exist in isolation — it mirrors the world around it.
For Spanish Express, this means being adaptable. The insights I gained from this track will help us strengthen our partnerships, anticipate shifts in travel behaviour, and ensure that our programmes remain both accessible and sustainable amid global change.

6. Travel Trends
Finally, the Travel Trends track brought everything together.
These sessions looked to the future: changing traveller motivations, emerging destinations, and the rise of experiential travel — where the focus is on connection, emotion, and authenticity.
The WTM Trends Report 2025, presented by Dave Goodger (He/Him), Managing Director EMEA at Tourism Economics, offered an exclusive look at the future of global travel. Drawing on Oxford Economics’ in-depth research, Dave highlighted key shifts shaping the industry—from the rise of immersive travel experiences to evolving cultural values and powerful regional disruptors. His insights revealed not only where travellers are heading in 2025, but why, making it one of the most anticipated sessions of the event.
One speaker described the modern traveller as someone who doesn’t just want to “see” Spain, but to feel it. That description perfectly captures what Spanish Express offers — the opportunity to live like a local, speak the language, and be part of a family.
It was exciting to see that what we’ve been doing for years — authentic, immersive, culturally rich travel — is now at the heart of where the entire industry is heading.

Beyond the Tracks — Workshops and Special Sessions
WTM 2025 wasn’t just about talks; it was about participation. The Masterclasses and workshops were some of the most interactive sessions I attended. To access these special sessions, securing a ticket or registering in advance was necessary.
In a marketing masterclass, I learned about building “micro-moments” — those short but powerful interactions that define how travellers remember a brand. It gave me ideas for how Spanish Express can enhance the student journey, from the moment someone visits our website to the day they return home from Spain.
I also attended part of the Ministers’ Summit, co-hosted with UN Tourism and WTTC. Listening to global tourism ministers discuss policies on education, sustainability, and cultural preservation reminded me how important language travel is to international collaboration.
The ITT Future You session, designed for students and young professionals, was another highlight. It was heartwarming to see the next generation of travel leaders so engaged and eager to create a better, more inclusive industry.
Lessons and Takeaways
After three full days of walking, talking, and learning, I left WTM London with pages of notes and a head full of ideas. Paying close attention to the details shared at WTM London will be crucial for implementing improvements at Spanish Express. But more than that, I left with renewed conviction in our mission.
Here are a few key lessons I brought home to Spanish Express:
- Sustainability is a shared responsibility. Every travel company, big or small, must consider its impact on communities and the environment.
- Technology is a tool, not a replacement. Use it to make travel more personal, not less.
- Storytelling is the heart of marketing. The most powerful stories are those rooted in authenticity and emotion.
- Diversity enriches travel. Inclusion must be at the core of every experience we design.
- Connection is the future. People crave meaningful relationships — with locals, with cultures, and with themselves.
These insights will shape how we grow and innovate at Spanish Express in the coming year.

How WTM Will Shape Spanish Express’s Next Chapter
WTM always leaves me inspired to take action, and this year is no different. Here’s what’s next for us:
- Expanding our homestay network to include new regions across Spain.
- Developing new eco-friendly programmes that highlight sustainability through local experiences.
- Enhancing our digital marketing with storytelling videos, blogs, and student interviews.
- Launching collaborations with international universities and travel partners met at WTM.
- Creating workshops for travellers focused on cultural empathy and responsible travel.
Each initiative will help Spanish Express continue evolving — always with the same heart, but with a broader, more global perspective.
Gratitude and Reflection
As I look back on my time at WTM London 2025, I feel both grateful and inspired. It was three days of discovery, learning, and reconnection with a global community that believes travel is a force for good.
I’m proud to represent Spanish Express — not just as a language-learning provider, but as a bridge between cultures. Each conversation I had at WTM reminded me why we do what we do: because language unites people.
WTM isn’t simply an event — it’s a mirror of the world we want to create: sustainable, inclusive, and filled with meaningful experiences.
Turn Experiential Travel Trends Into a Real Spanish Life Experience
WTM London 2025 confirmed what we’ve believed at Spanish Express for years: the future of travel is not about ticking off landmarks, it’s about connection, culture, and real-life learning. People want experiences that feel personal, meaningful, and human.
That’s exactly what our Spanish Homestay Immersion Program (SHIP) offers. Instead of staying in a hotel and attending a standard language school, you live with a certified Spanish teacher and practise Spanish naturally throughout the day during meals, walks, cultural visits, and everyday routines. This is experiential travel with real impact, because language becomes part of life, not just a subject.

SHIP is ideal for:
- Travellers who want authentic cultural immersion, not surface tourism
- Busy professionals who need fast, practical progress
- Adults of all ages who learn best through real-life routines
- Cultural travellers who want meaningful local connection
- Remote workers and career changers who want Spanish for daily life
- Students preparing for Spanish exams (DELE, SIELE, GCSE, A-Levels, YLE, IB and other certifications)
- Anyone who wants a safe, structured, personal learning experience
