Mónica’s life has always been rooted in more than one culture. Living in the UK while maintaining strong ties to Spain has given her a unique bicultural perspective, one that allows her to truly understand the needs, expectations, and learning styles of international students.

Her travels and experiences across cities like London and  Barcelona, and Menorca island, have deepened her belief that language is not something you learn in isolation. It is something you live, experience, and connect through.

This philosophy would later become the foundation of Spanish Express.

After years in tourism and cultural exchange, Mónica recognised a gap in traditional language education. Many learners were studying Spanish, yet struggling to use it confidently in real-life situations.

She realised that the missing element was not grammar or vocabulary, it was immersion.

This insight led her to create something entirely different.

Mónica is the founder of the Spanish Homestay Immersion Program (SHIP), a unique concept where students live and study Spanish in their teacher’s home in Spain.

Instead of separating learning from daily life, SHIP integrates the two. Students practise Spanish naturally throughout the day, during conversations, meals, activities, and everyday moments. The result is a more intuitive, faster, and deeply engaging learning experience.

This idea, born from her background in tourism and her understanding of cultural immersion, became the cornerstone of Spanish Express.

From Vision to Reality

In 2003, Mónica founded Spanish Express with a clear purpose:
to offer a more meaningful and effective way of learning Spanish.

Over the years, the company has grown into a trusted provider of immersive Spanish programs for adults and professionals, while staying true to its original philosophy.

Mónica’s contribution to education has also been recognised internationally, including her participation and recognition at the Education 2.0 Conference in Dubai, United Emirates, reflecting her role as an innovator in language learning and cultural integration.

Alongside her background in tourism, Mónica is a Chartered linguist, translator, Spanish & English teacher, examiner, and teacher trainer with over 20 years of experience in language education.

However, what truly defines her approach is not just her expertise, but her belief that learning should be personal.

Mónica continues to lead Spanish Express with the same vision that inspired it from the beginning, but with a forward-looking perspective.
